A ton of great friends from SUSWA as well as some other "new friends" were there, playing guitar, bass, drums, djembe, tamborine. . . . . There were several mics and everyone just took turns jumping in, filling in on the electric guitar one minute, an acoustic the next. Taking a mic, singin' a tune or splashing some harmonies with one another. I had a great time and totally think it should be a standing gig at least once a month.
But HERE'S THE BIG NEWS. . . . . . .I had an epiphany
(drumroll please). . . . . . .
I march to the tune of a different drummer!
(obviously-Not the guy doing the roll!)
That's a nice way of saying. . . I'm an odd ball. . . I'm strange.
-that's okay, I can handle it. Really. . .
Now I'm betting that EVERYONE else has already known that for quite some time about me, and I'm grateful to all of you who have continued to be my friend in spite of this weird oddity. Particularly my musician friends. . . .
I asked myself;
Is it because I graduated in '79. . . . in the (literal) daze of disco?
Is it because I grew up in rural St. George Utah, population 12,000 with one radio station. . . KDXU? h.m.m.m.m.m
or maybe my parent's 8 track stereo playing Merl Haggard, Johnny Mathis, Lynn Anderson and "others" . . . . all weighing in heavier on my psyche than I realized. . . . . .
So I started thinking back on the LP's of my youth and decided either I have different taste, or THEY (giggin friends) have different taste! ha ha! Surely I can't be THAT strange!
Here's a few of the artists that would "take me away" back in my youth. (and you will still alot this stuff on my ipod today.)
My Top 3
James Taylor. . . I owned every single release
Dan Fogelburg . . . . yep every single release
Loggins & Messina. . . . ditto
other fav's: Chicago, Seals & Crofts, England Dan & John Ford Coley, America, Steely Dan, Earth Wind & Fire, Christopher Cross, Diana Ross, (early) Olivia Newton John, The Carpenters, Jim Croce, John Denver, Bread . . . .By the early 80's I was really into Jazz.
Earl Klugh, Spyro Gyra. . .
In College I played/sang in a band. . . . I can't remember now what the name of our group was. . . .something like Gold Nuggets??? Is that really what we were called??? GEEEZ . . . it was such a memorable band that I don't remember! . . . .
Really cheesy I know. . . .I believe that was before the birth of the chicken nugget.
I thought about the tunes we played. . . it seemed like we played EVERYTHING except the tunes that we played saturday at Dan's Guitar Store on Saturday.
Allow me to share a few of the "nuggets" top tunz played at the local b&g's. . . .
Celebration (Kool & the Gang)
Hit me with your best shot (Pat Benetar)
YMCA (Village People)
Boogie Oogie Oogie (Taste of Honey)
Desperado (Eagles)
Kiss on my list (Daryl Hall & John Oats)
Morning Train (Sheena Easton)
Slow Hands (Pointer Sisters)
Too Much Time On My Hands (Styx)
I've decided that if Dan holds this giggin' once a month, I'm gonna have to learn a few of the old classic rock & roll tunes that THEY all know if I'm gonna have as much fun as they're having. Can you teach and old mama new tricks? hm.m.mmm. we'll see!

I think you march to your own drum cause you forget everyone else's drums.. hahahahaha! get it, you forget, haha, ok i crack myself up!
Errin that wasnt very nice.. Though i did get a good laugh. Mom You are incredible and who cares if you march to a different drum, its never stopped you before. SO why should it now. You are so talented and I know you could learn whatever song you wanted for this new gig and it would be a hit. You have an amazing talent and I would love to be more like you in that department. What I miss the most is listening to you sit with your guitar or on the piano and sing.
I love You... You are the GREATEST EVER...
