Happy Mother's Day!

Last week it was Mother's Day.  For an amazing amount of women, this is a very depressing day.  It use to be for me.  I would go to church and hear about all these incredible women that I was not. . . . I would hear about Super Mom who does it all with both hands tied behind her back and I would feel like a  huge failure. . . .  That's how most moms feel.  It's often the worst day of the year for us.   Sorry guys. . . . we're wired weird, I know.

However about a decade or so ago, I figured it out. . . . at least for me.  I can't wake up on Mother's Day and think it's all about me.  It's not.  It's about MY mother.  That way, I can go to church and I can hear about all the fabulous wonderful things that mothers do and they are right!  They are dead on perfect!   My mother IS super mom!
She raised 7 kids, cooked, cleaned, taught the scouts, was RS Prez, Primary Prez, did PTA, volunteered, nursed the ill, balanced the check book, wrote her congressman, made home-made bread every single week, made home made butter because we had a milk cow, sewed all our clothes, helped us with school, gardened with dad, exercised to be healthy (she swam a mile every morning at the city pool), took us camping, had a beautiful flower garden, taught the Gospel Doctrine class, kept her journal, did temple work and family history, she even held a part time job.  Now she's retired and she's been on two missions, has dozens of grandchildren that love her dearly.  Her home is always being visited by kids and grandkids often found at the dining room table where she can play a mean game of Scrabble and entertain you for hours playing cards.

See. . . Mother's Day is great when you pay tribute to your own mom and not yourself.  Then, you're kids and hubby are off the hook.  They can pay their tribute in anyway they desire, no matter how big or small, and it will just be frosting on the cake.   I feel extra blessed this year. Ashley and Errin gave me this very nice necklace.  Beau brought me flowers.  I got a hug from Jared! Michelle sent me a set of Mary Kay brushes and new compact that I had no idea how much I would LOVE!  Michael a very clever card.  Robin & Kyla helped me get dinner going and just loved me.   I feel very very blessed for both my mother and the wonderful opportunity of being one.
